Travel has a way of opening your eyes to things you didn’t even realize you were missing. My recent trip to Germany reminded me just how important it is to step outside of my comfort zone not only to see new places, but to experience how different people live, connect, and build community

In a place where they are 7 hours ahead of our time, surrounded by unfamiliar language, architecture, and traditions, I found myself reflecting deeply on what “community” really means. We often build our lives around what’s familiar our routines, our people, our home base. But sometimes, God places us in new environments to help us see the world, and ourselves, in a different light.

Since I returned to the states, I needed some blessings and my prayers were answered by a local church in my community. One morning, I decided to attend their service. I didn’t know anyone there, and I didn’t know what to expect, but something inside encouraged me to walk in. What I experienced was powerful. Previously, I’ve been faithfully attending an online church in South Carolina. That community has poured into me in so many ways, and I’m still very much connected to it. But lately, I’ve also found myself attending early morning services in person, right here where I live. I’ve come to realize that God can speak to you in several different ways through people, through places, and sometimes through the courage it takes to do something unfamiliar. This trip reminded me that faith doesn’t have to fit neatly inside our routines. Growth often requires movement spiritually, mentally, physically, emotionally, etc. The more I open myself to new experiences, the more I see God’s hand in unexpected places. If there’s one thing Germany taught me, it’s that stepping out of your comfort zone isn’t just about travel, it’s about allowing your spirit to stretch. You never know what lesson, blessing, or message God has waiting for you when you’re willing to take that step.
